Rigid contact lenses

Rigid contact lenses – otherwise known as gas permeable or RGPs – are an older type of contact lens.  They are smaller than soft contact lenses, at less than a centimetre in diameter.  Rigid contact lenses cover the pupil but not the entire iris.  Wearers may find rigid contact lenses difficult to get used to, as they are harder and less comfortable than soft contact lenses.  However, some experts believe that rigid contact lenses work better for abnormally shaped eyes, and are better for long-term eye health.  Rigid contact lenses are only worn during the day, but are re-worn for up to a year.
