Caring for your contact lenses
According to the NHS, 70% of UK contact lens wearers are using contact lenses incorrectly. Many people don’t look after their lenses properly, storing them in dirty cases. This increases the risk of eye infections.
Advice for all contact lens users
- Always wash and dry your hands before touching your contact lenses. This will reduce the risk of transferring dirt onto your lenses.
- It’s important to wear your contact lenses for the right amount of time. If they are designed for single use, only wear them once. If they are re-usable, make sure you take them out at regular intervals.
- It’s a good idea to keep a pair of glasses handy, in case you have to take out your contact lenses.
- If your eyes are red or painful, talk to a practitioner as soon as possible.
- Don’t use saliva or tap water to moisten your contact lenses.
- Don’t wear contact lenses in the shower.
- If you want to wear lenses for swimming, make sure you wear goggles too.
